Framed corals

by Heike Schaefer 0 Comments

From 2009 till now I sailed long times through the Pacific Ocean between Fiji, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand. It was very fascinating to snorkel and see all the underwater world.

Back in New Zealand in my studio I embroidered with the sewing machine a few of the corals onto water soluble Material. The corals are mounted in a special way. So you get the feeling of „floating in water“.They are framed in custom made frames.

The size varies between 25 cm x 25 cm  and 90 cm x 90 cm. They are for sale.

The first coral is framed!

After a long time I did something different. No quilting, no patchwork.

This Sea Star Coral is freehand machine embroidered.

2011 I was with my partner for 9 months sailing in the Pacific Ocean between New Zealand and Australia. We visited Fiji, Vanuatu, The Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea before we reached Australia. We cruised the Australian coast and then returned home via Lord Howe Island.

On this trip we snorkeled nearly daily and with an underwater camera I took lots of photos. Now I start to reflect on some of the pictures I collected.
